About Unitas Publishing

Founded in 1984 with the launch of Unitas Literary Monthly, Unitas Publishing began publishing books in 1987. In nearly four decades, it has released more than a thousand titles across fiction, essays, poetry, criticism, and cultural studies, becoming one of Taiwan’s most influential literary presses.

Unitas has consistently championed both established and emerging voices. It continues to publish works by literary masters such as Pai Hsien-yung, Huang Chun-ming, and Chiang Hsun. The Unitas New Fiction Award (1987–2014) introduced an entire generation of new writers - including Luo Yi-chin, Dung Kai Cheung, Hao Yuh-siang, Wenren Yueyue, Ge Liang, Zheng Egoyan, Chiu Chang-ting and Yuan Jinmei – who have since reshaped the landscape of Chinese literature.

Unitas was also the first publisher of Nobel laureate Gao Xingjian among other internationally recognized authors such as Li Kotomi, fostering literary exchange across languages.

Exhibition Overview

The Echoes of Forty Years in Chinese Literature exhibition in New York presents a cross-generational panorama of Chinese writing:

·      Foundational masters such as Pai Hsien-yung, Huang Chun-ming, Xi Song, and Chiang Hsun resonate through their enduring classics.

·      Winners of the Unitas New Fiction Award—including Luo Yi-chin, Tsai Su-fen, Dung Kai Cheung, Wu Jun-yao, Lai Hsiang-yin, Zhang Yuan, Hao Yuh-siang, Hsieh Chao-hua, Huang Kuo-hung, Zheng Egoyan, Wenren Yueyue, Yuan Jinmei, Liu Waitong, Ge Liang, Hon Lai Chu, Wu Yi-wei, Chiu Chang-ting and Lin Xiuhe (Arranged by year of award)—embody the vitality of  new Chinese-language writing.

·      Internationally recognized voices such as Nobel laureate Gao Xingjian and Akutagawa Prize winner Li Kotomi have broadened the exchange of literature within a global context.

Here, memory and renewal intersect as classical and modern effects echo one another. In fall 2025, we invite you to join us in New York to witness the resonant voices of four decades of literature.
