Cinders There Are: The New Goddess

Artist: Zaozao ZhangCurator: Kexun Zhang
Upon cinders of the undying fire, burns the lost soul fleeing from another hell. Upon the surge of angry lava, rises the goddess that rules her new world. In this exhibition, artist Zaozao Zhang weaves a new mythology of feminist existentialism, speaking to our universal longing for belonging, temptation of self-destruction, and the misty of subjectivity.
In a time when seemingly peace is so not enough for true liberation, cinders, in this sense, serve as the metaphor of the endurance for the ongoing struggle of feminist movements, and represent our vulnerable but stubborn selves and memories. There are cinders, the enshrined witnesses of that liminal space between life and death; cinders there are, nothing more but the pure remain their living presence. Here lingers the silent shout, to their agency, to the rebirth out of the flame.
