Drag Summit Workshop with Kennie Zhou

“Don’t be a drag, just be a queen.” Kennie’s workshop focused on character building and embodiment. They will be sharing the secret formula of creating Drag King character y2k3n and how they made seismic drag debuts across subculture venues in various cities, including: Zhaodai, Oil, All, Elevator,X Museum, etc. Trained as a professional theatre director, Kennie will help you to put flesh on the bones of your drag idea. Through acting exercises and group discussions, you will be able to overcome stage fright and find confidence in embodying the queen. This workshop welcomes all kinds of queer, non-binary, femme or gender non-conformative babies.

Artist Bio

Kennie Zhou(@Kenniedidit) is a director, producer, and performer based in New York and Beijing, graduated from NYU Tisch with honors.They have presented their performance works in theaters, clubs, and galleries, including X Museum, The Judson, La Mama, Playwrights Horizons, Zhaodai, Oil, All, Elevator, etc. Their performances explore nonlinear narrative and deconstruction of pop culture, influenced by Butoh, Drag, Clowning, Electronic music, and Queer theories.As a director and producer, Kennie has been working with award-wining creative and top-charting musicians on short films and music videos. Their work involves CG images, AI generated content, and IRL footage, blurring the line between reality and imaginations, featured by the New York Times, CNBC, iD, Vice, Hypebeast, etc.
